The vessel was built by Thomas Gray, surviving partner of the firm David & Thomas Gray, Shipbuilders.

19/10/1849 Lloyd's List. "Swansea 18th Oct. The DANUBE, McMachin, from Danzig to Gloucester, was in contact 35 miles N. of Scilly with a large English schooner and almost immediately sank; crew saved and landed here by the Reine des Anges."
