26/12/1897 stranded on South Haaks Sands, Netherlands when inward to Nieuwe Diep from Cardiff with coal, and 16 of crew taken off by lifeboat. Later refloated on rising tide and steamed to sea with master and three crew on board until fires died and ship drifted into North Sea. On 28/12 four remaining taken off by German steamer OLDENBURG and ZAMORA taken in tow. Later tow was lost, riding crew from OLDENBURG recovered and ZAMORA foundered 3am on 29/12 in 25 fathoms at 54.3N 4.11E, about 65nm NW of Terschelling |
